Collapsed towers.
Early radio trivia #29: These stations are some that have had tower collapses: 6WA (700 feet tall), 2LT, 2LF, 2RE (3 times), 3TR, 3YB, 3CS, 4EL, 4GR, 4BU, 4AY, 4LG, and 5RM.

I also remember that 2KO's Hexham transmitter was clipped by the NBN helicopter covering a car accident at Ironbark Creek and came down too. This would have been late 70s or early 80s as I was a kid at the time.

RE: Collapsed towers.
Did the helicopter come down as well as the tower?

PS I remember when 3UZ, 3AW, 3XY, 3KZ had city based studios, and had "stand by" guyed antennae on their roofs.
3DB at the Herald Building had the luxury of 2 fixed self supporting towers on the roof.

RE: Collapsed towers.
Stuart, thanks for the info on the 2KO tower. The 4GR tower came down for the same reason.

I remember 3DB having frequent transmission problems in 1986-86.

5UV Adelaide's mast collapsed in 1990 precipitated by the failure of a guy anchor.

RE: Collapsed towers.
This countries biggie for me was when the 2QN at Deniliquin stick came down in a big storm I think for memory sometime in 2009...The storm brought it down but the stick was in pretty awful shape judging by the pictures of the remains for memory...it looked like a mast waiting to fall...and funnily enough it did...
